Marvel Made 20,000 ‘Ant-Man’ Giants Hats, But the Scene Got Cut

Apparently, the new “Ant-Man” movie was supposed to feature a scene where Paul Rudd’s character grew to be 100 feet tall over Oracle Park in San Francisco and rocked home runs into the bay.

As part of the scene, Marvel collaborated with the San Francisco Giants to create “Ant-Man” themed headwear, including one that looks just like the regular Giants “SF” cap, but with little black and orange ants marching across the panels.

“We were going to have a whole stadium full of people stay after [a game],” location scout Patrick Ranahan told SF Gate. “We made 20,000 Ant-Man and the Wasp Giants hats.”

But, as the movie made it through the production process, that film got cut. But, it was apparently far enough that those hats still exist, even without ever getting to see Paul Rudd outdo Barry Bonds on an unimaginable scale.

So far, the Giants hats haven’t surfaced online, and they’re not on the Giants’ 2023 promotional calendar. But, the team nor Marvel responded to SF Gate’s request for comment. So, maybe there will be a big surprise down the road for Giants fans.

Otherwise, the hats might just go the way of merchandise celebrating the losing team of the Super Bowl. Maybe they’ll get donated abroad to people in need. Maybe they’ll get recycled. Maybe they’ll just sit in a warehouse somewhere in Oakland.

But, Marvel fans who love baseball, especially those in the Bay Area, will be disappointed that this collaboration never fully came to fruition.

It seems like it would have been a lot more fun than what Bane did to Heinz Field in Pittsburgh.
